This is the unedited or raw How to Video. I have to admit I am having a hard time finding a venue for a video that will star other people. So, I used Camtasia instead and provided a How to for something that I know I can do. I am at work from 8 am to 4:30 pm and at my dad's clinic afterwards up to around 8 pm. At home, there is no electricity, so weekends are also difficult days for seriously shooting and editing.
Here is the edited version. The audio is still raspy, but I tried to make up for it through little captions (I was not able to close caption, though).
This is the raw, unedited, and chaotic video of a little skit that I made with the help of my active and noisy pupils. :D
The edited version of the skit can be viewed below:
I used the 640 x 360 dimension. My iPad mini may have been able to capture clear enough moving images and the HD video did not pixelate yet, but the HD video is 3x bigger, at 34.6 MB. The .mkv file may be smaller, but there are fewer players that will be able to play this format.
Reflection
I have to admit that I did not plan the shooting well enough. I had a draft plan, but it was last minute. However, even if I had a long-term plan, it would still be difficult to shoot at my school. There was a lot of noise during break time, all the time. At home, it was even more difficult to shoot as I usually go home late. We are still dependent on generator power during the nights. During the weekends, I had no power source during the day and no Wifi at all. So, time was very limited. I am thankful, however, that the children tried their best. I was honest with them. I told them that it was for a project of mine.
The shots were not planned out well, which is a shame given my multimedia background. I depended on framing the faces closer when the children were interacting. I panned the room to showcase the environment that the event was going on in. Using my iPad mini, I did not really have a lot of control that a video camera would afford. I did try my best to use rule of thirds and to provide enough space in front of a character when he/she is walking towards a direction. I used natural progression. The part where I gave a title card that says “one week later” actually featured shots that were taken days later. The earlier shots were done in a span of a few minutes. I had to depend on the children’s cooperation for the results.
As for the editing, I decided to add royalty-free background music to provide a light-hearted mood. The close captioning hopefully would make things a little clearer. I was trying for a video that would teach good manners. The acting could be further improved, if I get the time to prep the children. The editing was done via Slice (the transitions), iMovie (patching the videos together), and Camtasia Studio (adding the close captioning).
